Riverside County Sheriff’s Department defines Pre-Service as an individual who has received a California Basic POST certification but has not yet held a position in law enforcement or has not completed probation with a law enforcement agency. Our department defines Lateral as an individual who has obtained a California POST Basic certification, has a minimum of one year experience with a law enforcement agency, and has successfully completed probation.

In addition to the base salary Riverside County Sheriff’s Department offers an education incentive of 2.5% premium pay for possessing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. We also offer compensation for obtaining the Intermediate and Advanced level’s of POST certification. Intermediate certification is compensated at 6% higher and the Advanced Certificate is compensated at 11% higher.   

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department offers a flexible benefit package that includes options for medical, dental, and vision insurance: A flex benefit amount of $640.00 monthly may be used for medical and/or dental.   Riverside County Sheriff’s Department participates in California’s Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) equal to 9% of salary. Our formula for Public Safety positions is 3% @ 50.
